You'll spent 1-2 hours building an awesome 2D game with a character that can run and jump around! You'll learn setup Godot (a game engine), make a Github (a code hosting site) repo , build the basics of a platformer game, customize it, publish your game on Itch.io (a game hosting site), then submit it to our form to get ready for your Daydream!

There are plenty of super beginner-friendly resources to help you out. The presentation below guides you through everything you need to submit. If you scroll down, you'll also find a written guide. The written guide doesn't include Hackatime setup, you must do it! Follow this guide. There is also a 10-minute speedrun video, a Github setup video, and a video about publishing your game on Itch.io.

1. Create a Platformer Game using Godot

Godot is a free game engine you can use to create games.

Once you download Godot, setup Godot Hackatime before you start building your game. Follow this guide. (VERY IMPORTANT!)

Then, follow along with the 10-minute speedrun tutorial below or use the written guide to create a base 2D platformer game.

2. Make Your Game Unique

Choose a theme/style for your platformer. Add new features to make your game better! You can add your own story, background, assets, and more. For inspiration, look at the some of the other platformer games made by Hack Clubbers with Godot below!

3. Publish your Project to Itch.io

Itch.io is a website for people to share and play video games. Make an account, export your game, and publish it to the world. Use this video to help you.

4. Ship your Project (CONGRATS!!)

Ship your project in the #jumpstart-daydream channel in the format below.

Then submit your game the form on the right!

5. Get approved and get a cool organizer badge at your Daydream!
